What is Hyaluronic Acid?

First off, don’t let the word “acid” fool you. Hyaluronic Acid isn’t harsh or skin-stripping at all. In fact, it’s the exact opposite – a powerful humectant (i.e. moisture-binding ingredient) that keeps skin plump and hydrated and, yes, young-looking. Hyaluronic Acid is naturally found and produced by us. Hyaluronic Acid can be found in our joints, nerves, skin, hair and eyes. Though discovered in 1934 by Karl Meyers, it gained momentum when a reporter visited Japan and wanted to learn why both elderly men and women had smooth, wrinkle-free skin, flexible joints, full heads of hair and activity levels that defied their age. Know how a baby’s skin always looks so deliciously dewy? It’s because babies are born with a high level of Hyaluronic Acid, which keeps their skin plump and smooth. Unfortunately, the amount of Hyaluronic Acid in skin diminishes with age, most significantly after age 40.

Where does Hyaluronic Acid come from?

Hyaluronic acid is naturally produced by animals and plants. baimeni’s ingredients are plant derived and not tested on animals.

Hyaluronic Acid Benefits for Skin

The majority of human Hyaluronic Acid is found in the collagen of skin. Hyaluronic Acid helps to retain over a 1000 times its weight in water within the cells of skin, making it an excellent moisturiser.  In fact, no other biological substance can retain as much water as Hyaluronic Acid resulting in increased smoothness, softening and decreased wrinkles.
Today, Hyaluronic Acid is considered equally important, if not more important, than Collagen. The most common application for Hyaluronic Acid is in anti-ageing therapy, particularly with cosmetic procedures such as the elimination of skin imperfections and wrinkles. Hyaluronic Acid is a great ingredient to look out for as it helps to lock in moisture.
While you’re never going to get back baby-skin, it is possible to help restore the skin’s Hyaluronic Acid content and give grown-up skin a younger, fresher, more supple look. One way is through injectables. And the other way is through the use of a serum or moisturiser that contains Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic Acid is also an ingredient that is suitable for all skin types. Every skin, even oily, can benefit from Hyaluronic Acid.

The Best Serum with Hyaluronic Acid

baimeni’s signature product is the Hydrating Eye & Face Serum with Hyaluronic Acid. This magic in a bottle helps skin actually absorb and be nourished by the moisturiser. The majority of moisturiser actually evaporates because they are mostly made of water.
Each Hyaluronic Acid molecule can hold up to 1000 times itself in moisture, which means it is clinging on to the moisturiser and absorbing it, leaving skin hydrated. baimeni’s Hydrating Eye & Face Serum with Hyaluronic Acid is an intensely moisturising serum that is suitable for all skin types. Hyaluronic acid is great for acne prone, oily and combination skin, simply apply baimeni’s hyaluronic acid alone (except follow with sunscreen during the day). For dry or normal skin, follow with your choice of nourishing moisturiser or try baimeni’s natural face oil.
